What's up in Red Lodge anyway? Well, the first thing to know is that the pictures do not do it justice. Not even close. You can scroll a hundred photos and still not capture the charm of walking historic downtown, or the sense of awe you feel staring out over those endless vistas along Beartooth Highway.
Red Lodge is like that one beautiful bestie - absolutely stunning in person, but somehow never quite as photogenic as they deserve to be. Maybe not the most elegant analogy, but you get it. The point is: this place is breathtaking, and I haven’t yet seen a photo that captures its full magic. (Photographers, consider this your challenge.)
The town has this rare duality - it feels cozy and close knit, yet surrounded by the kind of wide open wilderness that humbles you in the best way. Just beyond the small-town charm of main street rises the local legend itself: Red Lodge Mountain, a year-round playground for skiers, snowboarders, and hikers alike.
Lining Broadway Avenue, you’ll find a mix of local shops, art galleries, and eateries that keep the town’s heart beating. It’s the kind of downtown where you can spend a whole afternoon wandering, chatting with locals, or sipping something good while you watch the world go by.
And when you’re ready for some fresh air, adventure is everywhere — from hiking Silver Run or Wild Bill Lake, to cruising the Beartooth Highway (often called “the most beautiful drive in America”). Even right outside Beartooth Bungalow, the Red Lodge Mountain Golf Course offers peaceful walks, morning wildlife sightings, and an unbeatable backdrop for coffee.
Red Lodge somehow balances it all - wild yet welcoming, laid-back but unforgettable, vast but homey. And, a totally amazing ski-town that's still somehow completely affordable. (See Travel & Leisure magazine's recent article naming it the "most affordable ski resort" in all the US). It's a total hidden gem, and while we're a little worried about the secret getting out, who are we not to shout it from the mountaintops how amazing this place is?
Whether you’re here to ski, hike, explore, or just breathe, this mountain town has a way of grounding you while still stealing your heart.
That’s exactly what happened to us. After years of visiting, we finally decided we didn’t just want to vacation here - we wanted a greater connection to this place on Earth we consider paradise. Beartooth Bungalow became that dream realized: a cozy, modern space right by the golf course and just minutes from everything that makes this town special.
If you’re curious how two Floridians who didn't even know how to use a bear-proof trashcan ended up falling head-over-heels for a Montana mountain town, you can check it out here on our Meet the Hosts page.
And if you're not curious - skip that entirely. But whatever you do, don't wait - Book your stay. Somewhere. Anywhere. Preferably Beartooth Bungalow. You've got to see this place to believe it.
It's amazeballs.
